Protect Yourself from Scammers and Fraudsters!

Posted by Skyward CU on July 29, 2024

I wrote about this last year, but fraud and scams are still a growing threat to the credit union and you, our members. We have seen several different scams played out against our members.

We continue to see fraudsters calling members trying to get login information. Often they say they are from your financial institution. They usually have the person’s email address or another piece of identifiable information. Their goal is to try to get you to give them your password. DON’T DO IT! Skyward will not call you and ask you to give us your password. It’s a scam to get your information. Once the fraudsters have your password, they change your password and steal your money.

Another scam involves someone calling to tell you that something is going to happen that will cause you to no longer be able to access your money. They will tell you that in order to protect yourself you need to pull your money out of your account and deposit it into a crypto ATM using a QR code they send you. They tell you your money will be safe there and to not tell anyone including the staff at the credit union and your family. According to the scammer, your family and credit union will only try to talk you out of withdrawing your money, leaving it at risk. Once your money is deposited into the crypto ATM, the scammer is able to access it, taking all of your money and leaving you with nothing.

They are very skilled at getting your information and putting you under pressure and alienating you from the people that really care the most. Do not fall for it. We work hard to protect you and your money. If something sounds too good to be true it probably is. If something sounds fishy, reach out to our staff and let them know what is going on so we can help you take steps for prevent the fraudsters from getting your hard-earned money.

If you have questions reach out to us.
